The Poozies at 28 YORK PLACE, Edinburgh

28 YORK PLACE, Edinburgh EH1 3EP (opposite St Andrews Square Bus Station) was once popularly known simply as "The Police Club" and hosted many great nights of folk entertainment through the 1970's. That was then. Now, it's a small hotel (but still known as The Police Club) trading as 28 YORK PLACE, with a function room (www.thepoliceclub.com/milne.html), and is about to become a regular gig venue again.

On Sunday 16 May 2010, The POOZIES - who are of course one of the top UK folk bands - are to kick-off a short series of monthly shows in the venue.

"Following the success of their brilliant latest album, Yellow Like Sunshine, the Poozies are back to entertain and enthrall you. Now in their 20th year, and with their strongest line-up yet, these pioneers of musical diversity will leave you breathless. With Eilidh Shaw on fiddle, Mairearad Green on accordion, Sally Barker on guitar, Patsy Seddon on harp and fiddle and Mary Macmaster one electro harp and clarsach their instrumental sets are bursting with energy and, with all five blending beautiful vocals, their song sets will fill you with emotion. Original, Traditional, Moving, Uplifting." (www.poozies.com).

Opening this first show will be the very talented young Edinburgh singer, CHLOE MATHARU ...

"Chloe's voice is captivating and true. " ... mature and gentle tone ... delivers a wonderful variety of songs with confidence and sincerity ... a voice with the purity of a folk classic" (Bella Hardy). Chloe has always been a singer, at school, in choirs, and for bands in the Fringe. Her love of performing is matched by an ability to tell a human story straight from the heart. Chloe won a place in the Cambridge Folk Festival's Youth Band (2006) and is charming audiences throughout the country with her unique voice. Look out for this young singer!" www.myspace.com/chloematharu
